建議您深入了解示波器的規格，才能選出最適合您實驗室的示波器。1. 更高的頻寬是否一定會更好？
頻寬變寬的時候，噪音值和動態範圍將增加。同樣地，頻寬更寬，示波器的價格也更貴。
使用「第 5 諧波規則」判斷您最常遇到的應用和訊號中所需要的最小頻寬。另一個準則是探棒頻寬應大於示波器頻寬的 1.5 倍，以確保能充分利用系統頻寬。2. 取樣率與記憶深度相比：兩者同樣重要
取樣率越高，解析度越高。取樣率越高，儲存擷取的訊號所需要的記憶體容量越大。
大部分示波器使用共用的 ADC 結構，因此最大的取樣率常代表插入頻道。若同時使用更多頻道，多個頻道將能分享取樣率。無論如何，現在有強大的內插演算法和更佳的頻寬滾邊因子，重建波形只需要 2.5 倍以上的訊號頻寬。高取樣率固然很好，但須考慮若需要更多的記憶體，則會導致擷取率減慢，這表示可能錯過隨機出現的小故障。3. 示波器不僅僅只是示波器
目前大部分數位示波器的功能都可進一步延伸，成為有數位通道的邏輯分析儀、序列通訊匯流排適用的協定分析儀、以及數位電錶等。
在實驗室中，最好能使用具備附加功能的示波器，這些功能包括波形產生器、圖形產生器和元件測試器。有了這些功能，在實驗室進行操作時可使用較少的設備，在前置作業準備時也更有彈性。
